Air


Air holds the essence of mental clarity, communication, breath and inspiration. This element directs our learning and self-expansion. The East, birds, dawn and Spring (the season of new beginnings) are associated with this element.



Fire


Fire holds the essence of action, will, identity, passion and Spirit. This element directs our self-expression and personal power. The South, lions, noon and Summer (the season of the body, action and energy) are associated with this element.


Water



Water holds the essence of feelings, intuition, emotions and the Mother. This element directs our deep, private feelings and self-surrender. The West, dolphins, twilight and Autumn (the season of release and emotions) are associated with this element.



Earth



Earth holds the essence of silence, birth and death and the Crone. This element directs our dedication, work and completion. The North, white buffalo, midnight and Winter (the season of Spirit, dreaming and death) are associated with this element.

Earth is Life force energy

Grounded. We cannot get very far on our spiritual journey until we are prepared to ground the spiritual energies in ways that work on the material, physical level or plane.

Spirit needs earth to manifest through. Lots of our clearing has to be done on an earth level. Clearing pain & trauma from childhood & the past, in general relates to our survival issues.

These are very earthy levels. We are Light, manifested into a physical form or body. The Light that is us has to be integrated right down to a cellular level within us & thus work on the physical level is very important.

The densest manifestation of Light is EARTH.

When we connect with earth, we manifest Light right down into the cellular level of our bodies. We create it physically. Sun & Moon both have a great association with earth: the moon with her cycles & feminine principle & the sun with his light & masculine principle, bringing light to earth.



We each have a chakra beneath our feet, connecting us with mother earth. This chakra resonates with the base (root) chakra and we have a great sense of aliveness when we are connected on these levels.

When we are not, we have what is known as poverty consciousness, scarcity; a belief that we will never be provided for. Once we connect to earth, we have a huge capacity to manifest whatever we want, to fulfil all our needs.

We can open up to earth’s prosperity & her ability to fulfill our every need. When we are in survival mode, poverty consciousness is uppermost. Once we re-connect, we can see the damage being done to mother earth & we want to be connected to her, to re-open our channels to her energy. Our connection with God comes through the earth.

Earth brings our connection to prosperity, success, abundance through supplying the energy to replenish us. If we can breathe right down below our feet & imagine that breath going into mother earth, then breathing it back up again—we can receive all the abundance she has to offer. She is not called our mother for nothing.

Stones that are grounding & will connect you to all that Earth offers are Pyrite, Hematite, Black Tourmaline, Black Obsidian, Ruby, Bloodstone, Garnet, Smokey Quartz, Petrified Wood.

Water is the embodiment of emotion & all that it entails:

cleansing, detoxification, purification, release & also communication.

Water teaches us to go with the flow, to let the resistance go. How many times do you hear the words ‘Just go with the flow…’ A drop of water on a rock can slowly make a hole in that rock, yet one would think the rock is stronger. Water is very deceptive. It can carve its way through mother earth, creating rivers, canyons, gorges.


Water is mother earth’s lifeblood, her bloodstream.

Without water, earth would be parched & without growth & sustenance. On a cloudy day, it is said that the sky is crying & raindrops are the tears that will wash mother earth clean & make regeneration & new growth possible.

Water is symbolic of the emotions and if you think that 80% of our planet is water, that gives us an idea of the emotional content of life. Emotions play a very important role yet most of us find this level the hardest to deal with, either being swamped by emotion or shutting them down in an attempt to handle them.

Invoke water to cleanse & purify & detoxify all old, stagnant energies. Stand in the shower & invoke cleansing to the core of your being so that you cleanse the Spirit within you.

Essences & elixirs work on this level. They cleanse us of ingrained patterns & traumas from our energy field. They allow old patterns to gently release. Water can cool us & stop us from being hot under the collar: too much fire energy. Water takes us into our feminine principle, our receptivity, openness, trust, psychic development. It all comes through the feminine receptive principle.

Water resonates with all chakras but particularly the heart.

When we are in tune with the Water element around us, our bodies vibrate with purity. We can see this when we do a detox diet, water is incredibly important at this time. Water re-energizes the earth when it rains. The air is crisp & clean & refreshed.

Water conducts energy & when we incorporate it into our own being, we too become wonderful receptors & conductors of Light. On a cellular level, water enables us to function better. Water teaches us much about our emotions, how to communicate them & the lessons we are learning on the path.

Water is vital when we are clearing old emotional patterns right down to a cellular level. Ask that water be invoked to clear old anger & resentment & rage. Water brings a flowing, gentle peace.

Water will show you where your ‘flow’ is with life. Whether it is blocked, stuck & controlled or whether it is rushing along as though you were white water rafting through life.

Serenity is the balance you are looking for—like a deep, still pool. Water teaches us what happens when we re-act to others instead of standing in our own still space. Ask water to help you to find a balance between the motion in your life & the stillness.

Ask water to help you to clean out the old, to bring in the new. Let water speak to you through your communication of your emotions. Make water a friend in your life whenever you are exposed to it: in the bath or shower, at the beach, in the pool, when drinking water, using elixirs & essences, when it is raining, when you water the garden, when you wash the dishes & clothes. Let the vibration of water move into your being every time you have contact with it. This can be many times a day.

FIRE

The power & intensity of fire can be experienced every time we come near it. It can induce fear & most of us have a healthy respect of this quality as it can get out of control very fast.

Yet fire is needed for transformation, for transmutation, for transcendence. Fire consumes old energy & transforms it into a new form. Alchemical processes of turning base metal into gold use fire as the transformative element.

Fire leads to profound change. Sometimes we feel as though we have a ‘fire in the belly’ & are being consumed to make change. On the spiritual path, it is believed that women undergoing menopause with its incessant hot flushes are actually undergoing transformation from one stage of life to another.

Fire rules the second & third chakras—the centres of creativity.

Creativity is a transformational process, creating a new form out of raw materials. When we become creative on our spiritual journey, it means that we are working with earth at grounding qualities & is one way to know that the integration process is well under way.



Creativity is the energy of creation & when we create we know we are in touch with God & manifesting our creations into more inspirational, higher, beautiful expressions of Light. This can be as simple as creating an alter or a beautiful room in our home to meditate & heal in.

Once we tap the creative Force of fire within our body, we can transform our body & mind & transmute ourselves into beautiful beings of Light. Firstly though, the fire element has to burn away the old patterns that no longer serve us. Sometimes we can literally feel as though we are burning up.


We all need the fire element. It prepares us for transformation, for a trial by fire, which may take much of your life with it but in its wake leave new seeds of life ready to be sown.

The way farmers back burn paddocks works in the same way. Burn the dry field & all the old weeds & seeds & other debris, leaving it ready for regrowth. Some indigenous tribes worked in this way many years ago. Our own lives work in the same way.

Habits that you have outgrown, possessions, belief systems that are outmoded can be cleaned out, leaving room for new & more beautiful, powerful creations to enter. Purification through spirit is powerful, it is an alchemical ritual.

AIR

Wind is air in motion, Spirit that is invisible yet incredibly powerful.

We can only see its effects. Breath is the force of air, of wind. Air connects to mother earth as her breath - to cleanse. The power of wind calls on the breath of the Divine to cleanse our life, to purify, to detoxify & create change through to the cellular level. The more you breathe deeply, the more you clear your body of old, stuck energy.

Air rules the sixth chakra (third eye) & the crown chakra.


Air is the messenger of the Spirit world, guidance comes from the higher realms to our conscious minds. We can send healing energies telepathically through the air over any distance.


Mind is connected with air as it is this quality that enables us to connect with our spirit guides, angels, higher beings—all the non-physical levels of existence.


Air manifests as Wind - gentle breezes, hurricanes, gales: all cleansing & leaving change in their wake.

Wind & Water work together. We can access Air through our breath & when we are stressed or exhausted, we know we are not accessing our deep breathing.

For breath is the breath of life. We have learned to breathe in such a shallow way, being careful to breathe like this so we don’t access the pain that is in our hearts & the experience of life on deeper levels.

Shallow breathing is now a part of our world. We have to re-learn to breathe deeply & consciously. Deep breathing can be used in meditation to connect to the Spirit realms & open up your psychic awareness.


Spirit talks to you through Wind. Angels, guides, Masters of Wisdom, Archangels, even our own Higher Self. Quiet your mind, breathe deeply within yourself & open up to the guidance that comes on the breath of life.

Clarity of thought will come to you (hence the connection with the mind) & you will be able to use your mind with greater ability. Wind says: Listen to your Higher Self, your own inner voice.
